Development of Fundamental Motor Skills in healthy children_CONTENT PROJECT
Development of Fundamental Motor Skills in healthy children with different degrees of sports participation
The importance of broad motor development has gradually penetrated into our society over the last decade. Exemplary for this is the recent success of the Multimove program. The long-term effects of participating in initiatives for broad motor development en / or multisport are not yet known, neither at the level of the child (motor skills, attitude and motivation), the parents (attitude), or the providers (what new initiatives have already been launched that respond to the knowledge and benefits of a broad motor development and / or a multisport offer).
Therefore, the general aim of this project is divided into four different research questions:
- What initiatives for broad motor development (3-8 years) and / or multisport (8-12 years) exist today in Flanders and what are their characteristics?
- To what extent is the attitude towards and the need for initiatives for broad motor development and / or multisport present in children and their parents?
- Which of the above initiatives have a demonstrable effect on motor competence, motivation and attitude, and which fators contribute to these effects?
- What is the long-term effect of the Multimove for kids intervention on actual motor competence?
- What is the difference between children who participate in unisport or multisport and children who don’t participate in sport when it comes to actual and perceived motor competence and motivation?
- How can the knowledge generated in this project be optimally utilized to launch and support initiatives for a broad motor development and / or multisport offer?
