The medial and lateral gastrocnemius muscles are two key calf muscles that play an important role in walking, cycling, standing balance, and many other movement activities. They have historically been considered as two heads of the same muscle and as having the same functional role and behaviour.

Alexander Schols is a master's student in Movement and Sports Sciences, specializing in Biomedical Research at KU Leuven. He is working on his master's thesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jolien Gooijers.

The BNB Lab was strongly represented at the VBSW Symposium 2025 in Leuven. Nele Terlaeken, Liese Bosman, and Jeroen Aeles attended the symposium and engaged with inspiring poster sessions and insightful oral presentations by, among others, colleagues from the MOVE research group.
